FRUIT OF THE POISONOUS TREE Is Published!!!

Fruit of the Poisonous Tree published October 1, 2024 in ebook. Paperbacks will soon be available!

This is the ninth book in the Tawny Lindholm Thriller series. The seed of the story was born during a drive to buy cherries on the east shore of Flathead Lake in northwest Montana.

The sweetest, juiciest cherries in the universe grow around Flathead Lake…but I’m not prejudiced!

On the way, I spotted the ruins of a burned house on an orchard. Some walls had collapsed leaving the inside open to view. The remaining roof sagged and a chimney was exposed.

I learned the house burned the winter before and had sat there, deserted, surrounded by hazard fence for months.

What had happened?

At the same time, a writing friend, Jeff Yamaguchi, told me about his grandparents who had been interned in a concentration camp during World War II even though they had lived and worked in the US for decades. Jeff sent me down the research rabbit hole where I uncovered diaries and oral histories relating how American families were uprooted from their homes and treated as the enemy based solely on race.

People of Japanese descent were not allowed to own property until 1952, even though they were citizens.

The seed sprouted into an idea about a Japanese American man, born in an internment camp, who grew up with the dream of owning land and planting a cherry orchard. He achieved that with his orchard on Flathead Lake. But now someone wants his land and won’t take no for answer. His house is destroyed by arson and then…

…the rest of the story is my new mystery Fruit of the Poisonous Tree!
