Legacy Wood Pens by Dr. Steve Hooley
What is Legacy Wood?
When historic buildings are being torn down or renovated, Dr. Steve Hooley gives new life to lumber salvaged from them. He creates legacy wood pens from trees that were growing at the time of the Revolutionary War and before the Civil War. He hand-turns scraps of white oak, walnut, pine, ash, and black cherry into stunning pens.
Steve graciously created custom pens as prizes for contests I sponsor.
About the Deep Fake Sapphire Pen:
Steve designed this pen especially to celebrate Deep Fake Double Down, book #8 in the Tawny Lindholm Thriller series. In the story, rare Yogo sapphires are a secret treasure worth killing for.
The pen is crafted of cherry lumber from the 1850s. The color matches the cornflower blue of Yogo sapphires with a wet gloss super glue finish.
About the Flathead Cherry Pen:
Fruit of the Poisonous Tree, book 9 of the Tawny Lindholm Thriller series, the story takes place in a cherry orchard on Flathead Lake, the largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi.
Steve designed the Flathead Cherry Pen from 1850 Antebellum Cherry. The finish is a mixture of Berry Wine (color of Bordeaux) pigment and acrylic varnish (three coats). The Berry Wine is then covered with a final coat of acrylic varnish, then sanded to 800 grit. The pen is then covered with four coats of CA glue and polished to a wet gloss finish.

I have read several of Debbie’s books. Love them all. Relate most to the one she wrote where the adventure took place in Pasco county where we both live, i.e. I live full time and Debbie is a snow bird.
Thanks for your kind words, Colleen! Hurricane Irma in 2017 inspired Dead Man’s Bluff. Didn’t you experience the storm firsthand?
Thanks, Patricia!
The pens are beautiful! I love the color.
Steve’s pens are amazing, Pat.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
