Dawn, avid reader and world traveler, took Stalking Midas on her recent trip to St. Petersburg, Russia! She sent this photo of the beautiful Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, along with the story behind it:
In 1881, Tsar Alexander II stopped his carriage to help what he believed was a boy in trouble. Anarchists took the opportunity to throw a bomb which killed the Tsar, even though Alexander had implemented reforms including the abolition of slavery. Alexander’s son built this incredible monument in his memory.
Thanks, Dawn, for taking Stalking Midas on your journey!
